New House!

Well it has been way too long since I have written. We have not had good internet service at all for the past two weeks... until now! So hopefully I can show you more upgrades on our house!

We just moved about a week ago... so the place still is not very organized. My dad came down to help move us in and to do some work on the house. He built me the most fabulous pantry with loads of great shelves on the sides and back. Then to take away some wasted top space he built a cupboard thing in the top of the pantry that can be accessed from the outside. I will try to get some new pictures of it since it is practically done... just need to paint the cupboard door and get it hung.

NOTE: I was going to post some new pictures but just discovered that my hubby has the camera... so I will show you the house when we first started working on it.

Summer projects

It has been sooo long since I had written and I have done so many wonderful things! Today I made strawberry jam. I have been wanting to get some made and finally took the time to do so. (pics will be coming soon!)

A couple of weeks ago I traveled up to Indiana to visit my parents and my sister. It was so good to be back home and the weather was fabulous! (lows 70's during the day and 50's-60's at night... just what I needed!) Anyway, my parents have a huge garden and because of the wonderfully cool weather it is flourishing. I was able to spend a few minutes in the garden collecting some much coveted (I hate using that word but it is the only one that fits when it come to the need for garden fresh veggies from my parents garden) veggies. I think my eyes were too big for my fridge... for when I got home I had to get my puzzle mind on and fit it all in our little fridge. I was thrilled to get some fresh cucumbers... nothing speaks summer as well as cool cucumber sandwiches or crisp refrigerator pickles (which are pictured below). Yum! Some day I will have a garden of my own.

One of the crafty things I have been working on is a baby quilt for my wonderful friends' first baby. It turned out so cute (if I say so myself!). My husband plays in the band Denver and the Mile High Orchestra and so I thought it would be great to have song quotes, Bible verses or any other quotes from the band wives incorporated in the quilt. My friend was so delighted with the finished result.

Well... that is it for now. I am hoping to get some more photos of recent projects up soon. But we may be moving soon too so I might be delayed a bit... not that I would mind since we (my hubby and I) are rapidly outgrowing out two bedroom apartment. (just think! I could have a better place to craft!!!!!)

Free For You! From... ME!

Here is a sample of my latest project for you to download and use (for personal use only, please). I am working on several little bear illustrations and they are turning out beautifully. I want to make some more book plates and have them printed to sell on etsy... but that will all come with time. Anyway... happy Saturday!

The Birds

The little wren eggs hatched yesterday! We got to watch them hatch first hand... which was a first for me! I got to snap these few pictures of the slow process. Unfortunately the mother abandoned them (we have not seen her for more than 2 days!) and when I checked up on them this morning two had died. I tried to feed and "mother" the third... but it was very week and cold and it died as well. I feel so bad that they died... but glad we could witness such an awesome hatching.

Upon a more happy note...

I uploaded some of my mom's hand dyed silk scarves onto Etsy today. I do hope that people will see them before mother's day and buy them. They would make such a wonderfully elegant gift!

Well... that it all for now. Have a beautiful Tuesday!

Our Bird Family

I just had to take pictures of our new "pets"! We have a wren family moving into our Christmas wreath (that is still up) on the front door. They are so much fun to watch! I was not sure if I would be able to take a picture of them through the peep-hole... but it actually worked! I love how they are making the nest out of beautiful moss and twigs! These are my kind of birds!

Valentine Gingerbread Houses

I am finally getting the pictures up of our wonderfully festive gingerbread houses! We (my friend and I) had a great time decorating (and eating the decorations) these Valentine houses. I did not get to make my traditional Christmas house, so this year I decided to use the red and white candy for a Valentine themed house (well I did go out and "splurg" on some traditional Valentine candy. It is not Valentine's Day without conversation and cinnamon hearts!). My husband told me to make so that it would light up... and I have to say that his idea was a great one! Not only does it look pretty lit up (with the lights shining through the front door and candy stained glass windows) but it smells wonderful too!

I think that I just started a new yearly tradition. Oh by the way... the little pink conversation heart on the front of my house says "Yum Yum"! I did not realize this until I was done with the house!

Valentine's Day Cards

Here are some pictures of the making and the finished Valentine's Day cards that I made last night. I was going to decorate my Valentine's Day gingerbread houses... but got caught up in making these rosy cards. (My cell phone does not do too bad at taking pictures!) I save a lot of cards that I receive and use them to make recycled cards... in this case for Valentine's day.

I hope to get some pictures of the gingerbread houses today (since I plan to decorate them today and not make cards). Until then... have a beautiful day!

Sketches

I think that blogging has become like my journal writing... very sparse. Sorry!
Any who...

I have been wanting to start a small collection of "portraits". So tonight as I was watching the Bachelor (the truth comes out... I really do enjoy watching the TV love drama. It is like morbid fascination... ok that is enough) I began to do some sketching and I came up with this regal lady. When I first started to draw her I did not think I was going to like the way she was going to turn out at all! But now I can't stop looking at her and getting drawn into her little world of fine dresses and etiquette. I really want to put her on canvas but am a bit afraid that she will lose some of her charm. But I could totally see her in a deep crimson gown, her rich chocolate locks curling around her fair face and shoulder and seated upon a rich purple velvet chair.  *sigh* I
guess she is just asking to be painted!

I have been wanting to upload some more of my most recent projects... but our camera died about 8 days ago. We went on a cruise to the Grand Turk and got some great pictures but our last picture was of my hubby and I in front of the ship before we left the island... so sad. So until then there might bee some very strange looking pictures that will be taken with my photo booth on my computer.

I hope everyone had a great holiday! Valentine's Day is coming up fast and I am hoping to get some cards made and posted soon.
